All data presented herein showed normal distribution. The VIF and tolerance values were 2. The characteristics of the subjects are presented in the Table 1. The BM of the athletes did not vary substantially across the five evaluation moments varying from Figure 1A displays the means of the m dash performances in the seven competitions.
Meanwhile, Figure 1B depicts the mean performance in the m events. Importantly, the ICC was 0. Figure 1. Variation in A and m B dash performances across seven official competitions.
The black line represent the mean individual performances, and the gray area represent the smallest important effect on performances i. Figure 2. The black line represents the mean individual performances, and the gray area represents the smallest important effect on performances i.
The multiple regression analysis using SJ and JS test results as predictors of and m dash performances is presented in Table 2. Figure 3. Table 2. Predictions of and m dash performances using multiple regression analysis.
The main finding reported herein is that, providing they are executed only a few weeks before the official tournaments i. In addition, during a given training period, the dynamics of the performance in these specific jump tests seem to be analogous to the dynamics of the actual results obtained in and m dash events.
Another study has already reported strong correlations between sprinting performance i. Furthermore, from a mechanical perspective, athletes with better performances in vertical jumps are possibly more efficient at overcoming the inertia and accelerating their bodies vertically Bunton et al.
Importantly, as the ground reaction forces increase, the vertical jump height increases Loturco et al. The same occurs in sprinting, during the transition from lower to higher velocities i. Curiously, even in sprinters with visual impairment, this mechanical similarity seems to be capable of influencing the specific performance in and m dash events. Loaded JSs are usually performed with moderate training loads, moved as rapidly as possible Cormie et al.
In this study, the athletes executed an optimal loading test in order to determine their individual optimal power loads i. The maximal JS power has been extensively related to a variety of specific sports measures, including speed and acceleration abilities Sleivert and Taingahue, ; Cronin and Hansen, ; Loturco et al.
At this loading condition, movement performance is possibly associated with maximum dynamic strength i. More importantly, based on the parametric relationship between force and velocity Cronin et al. Undoubtedly, this issue should receive priority in future investigations, in spite of the difficulty in obtaining partial times in official competitions. In this study, the possibility of combining two independent variables i. Observing the data reported here, from this point on, Paralympic coaches can better estimate the actual performance of their top-level athletes in official sprint competitions.
Concerning the within-subject variability, the smallest worthwhile enhancements in the 0. However, these values were higher than the estimates provided by elite track athletes without disabilities Hopkins, The greater variability in athletes with visual impairment's performances may be associated with their disabilities Fulton et al. Importantly, the smallest worthwhile enhancement provides the coach with an idea of the meaningfulness of a given change in an athlete's performance.
In general, an enhancement needs to be higher than the smallest worthwhile enhancement to affect the results i. To some extent, this explains the outstanding results obtained by the Brazilian team during the Pan American Games three gold, six silver, and two bronze medals in the and m races.
The advantage of these practical and timesaving tests is that they can be easily implemented in the athletes' routines, for finely adjusting the training strategies and, therefore, improving sprinting performance e. Future studies are necessary in order to determine other factors involved in the non-explained variance of sprinting ability in athletes with visual impairment e.
Possibly, some factors related to jumping and running mechanics will reveal more movement similarities and additional associations between their respective kinetic and kinematic parameters.
PrideHouse Celebrates! The installation was unveiled on August 7, —the night of the Parapan American Games Opening Ceremonies—both events were marked with a public reception and live stream. The Pan Am Games is the largest event that this city has hosted and will host for a long time. It is a great opportunity for us to celebrate the great things about Toronto — a multicultural, pluralistic society, and a beacon on the planet.
We have to tell a great story for Toronto. It is part of the success story but it is not the story. The story is that we have 10, athletes and officials coming with their families from 41 countries who may at some point look at Toronto as a place to live, or invest but in the meantime they will be here spending dollars and going to restaurants. Pan Am does not only exist in the Canary District.
There are many other areas. How do they connect up? Is there a master plan? We are building something called the Transportation Centre south of Mill Street, on provincially owned land.
It will be effectively part of the secured perimetre where buses will come in and out to move athletes from the Village to their games venues. That also enhances their legacy. All the sporting venues that are being used will have a post-Games life. Again, it is a lesson learned from other Olympic or multi-sport games where you have elements that become white elephants. Looking east from Canary District, Foundry building to the left. What is there that exists already that drives momentum for that?
Is it managing the overspill pressure from Downtown Toronto? How do we do that in an environment that is governed by provincial policy, Smart Growth, and Places to Grow focused on intensifying the urban core , and do it in a way that does not lead to more traffic congestion and less liveable neighbourhoods? I think that Canary District really fits the bill in terms of Smart Growth: it integrates walkability, liveability, and transit. I think of the acronym HOME — housing, opportunity jobs , medical care and education.
A number of those elements are being built, or being planned. The YMCA will be an incredible amenity for this neighbourhood in addition to the public realm that really serves as outdoor therapy, which is vital for a healthy city.
You have chosen Canary District as the post-Games residential brand for the area. The heritage building which we are restoring had a bit of a chequered past. It was a school, then a brothel, and then a greasy spoon called Canary Restaurant that was famous for filmmakers and truckers who would stop in this area.

Immediately after the Parapan Am Games end in August , the Village is turned back to us and we have the task of taking out temporary dividing walls, painting, putting in the hardwood floors and the kitchens — essentially making the units new again.
There is a lot of planning going into it; in fact, logistics is the most complicated part. How will it be different than another major urban revitalization in Toronto, that of Liberty Village? This was a very long time in the making. Don't miss the opportunity to participate in the largest sporting event in the history of Chile.
